Open positions at Trinity Theatre Company:

The Teaching Artist is responsible for educating students in theatre and arts related courses. They will ensure a fun, safe, and educational environment for all students, based on the core values of the company. The Teaching Artist will work with the District Coordinator to ensure clear communication and a high-quality experience.

Essential Functions:

  1. Using Trinity’s prepared curriculum, plan instruction in all required areas of the curriculum, following the state VAPA content and CSTP teaching standards.
  2. Prepares the instructional program including teaching strategies to be utilized, assessments to monitor progress and evaluation of program pieces.
  3. Designs and implements effective classroom management strategies to ensure appropriate behavior of students.
  4. Administers disciplinary measures as needed (typically using verbal directions) and coordinates concerns with site administration.
  5. Ensure the safety of each student
  6. Submit Class and Showcase Reports at the end of each day
  7. Track and Report attendance to supervisor and clients
  8. Notify the Director and Associate Director of Arts Education;, Parents, and School Staff (if applicable) immediately regarding emergencies
  9. Arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of class to ensure the successful completion of pre-class activities, and stay until the last student has been picked up
  10. Maintain and improve upon the cleanliness of any used facilities, following the motto: “leave the space better than we found it”
  11. Attend, participate, and collaborate in Team Education meetings on the 4th Monday of each month and other professional developments as needed
  12. Other tasks related to serving as an arts educator for Trinity Theatre.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. A minimum of 48 completed college credits units from an accredited college required, OR completion of Basic Education Test.
  2. Degree in theatre, education, or other related field (preferred, but not required)
  3. CPR & First Aid certification required
  4. Negative TB Test Required
  5. Must pass a Background Check and LiveScan applications
  6. Must complete the Mandated Reporter Training before any work is completed with children AND completed annually

The Teaching Aide, Under the supervision of a Teaching Artist, provides instructional assistance to individual or small groups of students in a classroom or other learning environment; assists in the supervision of students in the classroom, at lunch, or during play; relieves the teacher of routine clerical duties; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  1. Supports individual and/or small groups in various artistic areas (music, dance, acting, reading, etc,),
  2. Reinforce Teaching Artists expectations, and individualize to enhance student achievement,
  3. Monitor the rehearsal environment to motivate and encourage students to stay on task,
  4. Confer with Teaching Artist regarding student performance, progress, and/or problems,
  5. With Teaching Artist, complete the daily task charts, and prepare materials
  6. Maintain written records of student progress, operate a variety of equipment as assigned
  7. Monitors assigned areas such as playground, halls, etc., enforcing safety and appropriate behavior; 
  8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Must be 18 years or older.
  2. CPR & First Aid certification required
  3. Negative TB Test Required
  4. Must pass a Background Check and LiveScan applications
  5. Must complete the Mandated Reporter Training before any work is completed with children AND completed annually
  6. Must have reliable transportation

Teaching artists are responsible for providing a fun theatrical experience for students across San Diego County. Teaching artists will provide a variety of experiences for students based on site location. Some sites will focus on putting together a full show performance, others will focus on skills-based classes and camps to make theater accessible to all. Teaching sites include South Bay, College Area, and Escondido.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 12 completed units in theatre, education, or other related field from an accredited college required
  • Degree in theatre, education, or other related field (preferred, but not required)
  • Knowledge of theatre basics and basic musical theater dance and singing
  • Bilingual a plus (not required)

Major Responsibilities:

  • Teach and instruct students using a variety of teaching methods
  • Implement curriculum to provide a quality theatrical education for students
  • Establish and maintain communication with families, school facility staff members, and Trinity Theatre Company staff
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings required for the teaching position

Job Requirements:

  • Weekday availability (typical hours are between 2:00pm-5:00pm)
  • Reliable transportation
  • Negative TB Test, CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Must pass a background check and LiveScan application
Hourly rates begin at $25 an hour.
