Auditions Information

What to Expect at Auditions

Are you preparing for your next big audition? At Trinity Theatre Company, we believe in making the audition process as smooth and enjoyable as possible. Here’s everything you need to know to feel prepared and confident before stepping into the spotlight.

What Are Trinity Theatre Auditions Like?

Auditioning can be nerve-wracking, but knowing what to expect can make all the difference! Our audition process is designed to help you showcase your talents in a welcoming, supportive environment. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect:

1. Arrival and Check-In

Auditions typically begin with a check-in process. Please arrive 15 minutes early to ensure you have time to fill out any necessary forms and get settled. Our friendly staff will greet you, and you’ll be asked to provide your headshot and resume if you have them. Don’t worry if you’re new to the scene—our team is here to guide you through every step.

2. Prepare for a Cold Reading or Monologue

Most auditions at Trinity Theatre require either a cold reading (for our Arts Education shows) from the script or a prepared monologue (for our GUS programs). If the audition requires a monologue, please choose one that highlights your strengths and matches the character type you’re auditioning for. Be ready to take direction from the casting team, as they may ask you to try different approaches.

3. Group Audition or Solo Performance

Depending on the production, you may participate in a group audition or perform solo. Group auditions are typically used for musicals or ensemble shows, while solo auditions are common for more intimate, character-driven pieces. Don’t worry—either way, we are looking to see how well you work with others and take direction.

4. Dance Audition (For Musicals)

For those auditioning for a musical, there will likely be a dance audition portion. Don’t be afraid to show off your personality here, even if dancing isn’t your strong suit! We are looking for performers who bring energy and enthusiasm, so feel free to have fun with it. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear for movement.

5. Callbacks

If you’re called back, congratulations! Callbacks are an opportunity to delve deeper into specific roles. You may be asked to read more scenes, sing additional songs, or participate in more detailed character work. This is your chance to shine, so come prepared, stay flexible, and show us your range.

If you are not called back, please do not take it personally. We may have been looking for something just a little different for this production. Please know that we keep all actor information on file, and would love to see you back at future auditions, and use your talents soon.

6. Tips for Success at Trinity Theatre Auditions

  • Be Yourself: We want to see the real you—don’t be afraid to let your unique personality shine.
  • Research the Show: Familiarize yourself with the play or musical you’re auditioning for, including its characters, themes, and tone.
  • Warm Up: Take a few minutes before your audition to warm up your voice and body, especially if you’ll be singing or dancing.
  • Stay Positive: Auditions are as much about attitude as talent. Stay confident and positive, even if you feel nervous!

7. After the Audition

Once your audition is complete, the casting team will review all performances. Depending on the show, you may be notified of callbacks or casting decisions via email or phone within a few days.
